Weight Loss Injections: My Honest Take
Weight loss jabs, “skinny pens” — whatever name people are using — are everywhere right now. I’m not here to say I’m fully for them or against them. Like most things, context matters. These injections can have a place in severe cases of obesity or serious health risks, but for many people, I think they’re being misused.
If your goal is to lose two or three stone, that can be achieved through lifestyle and habit changes. It might take longer and require effort, but it’s sustainable and comes with far fewer downsides.
Here’s what I’ve noticed: a lot of people using these injections either don’t go to the gym at all, or they think the jab alone is enough. And yes, an injection will always beat the gym in terms of speed and effort when it comes to weight loss. But the gym isn’t just about the number on the scales. It’s about becoming fitter, stronger, and healthier on the inside as well as the outside
The Downsides Nobody Tells You
From speaking to people and doing my own digging, here are some of the risks that don’t get talked about enough:
• Muscle loss: Along with fat, you can lose 40–50% of your muscle mass. Building quality muscle takes years. If you’re in your 40s or 50s and lose it, the reality is you may never get it back.
• Loose skin: Rapid weight loss without strength training often leaves you with loose skin, and skin elasticity doesn’t “catch up” at the same rate as the weight comes off.
• Other side effects: Hair loss, digestive issues, and in some cases, feeling worse overall despite weighing less.
All of that for a quick fix? To me, it doesn’t seem worth it.
What’s Really Behind the Weight Struggle?
When people want to lose weight, it usually comes down to deeper reasons:
• Lack of confidence
• Emotional eating (often from lack of self-love)
• Low energy
• Low motivation to work hard
• Not enjoying training, so they miss out on the post-workout “high”
Fixing these root causes builds long-term results. A jab won’t solve them.
Final Thoughts
I’m not judging anyone who chooses to use weight loss injections. But if your health, confidence, and energy are the real goals, the gym and lifestyle changes are still the better investment. Injections might give you speed, but training gives you strength, resilience, and results that last.
